Short Description of the Course
The course focuses on the Waste Licensing and Environmental Monitoring Policy for Pacific Island Countries and Territories. It aims to improve waste management via activities addressing data management, education, and awareness, strengthening legislative frameworks, on-ground actions, and capacity building. The course will guide participants through policy requirements and provide draft instructions for the inclusion of waste licensing processes and environmental monitoring standards in environmental and waste legislation.
Learning Objectives
Understanding Waste Licensing and Permitting:- Learn about the permitting and licensing requirements to regulate the nature, type, and volume of discharges from waste management activities.
- Understand the classification criteria and types of permits required for significant discharges or emissions.
- Familiarize with fee calculation formulas and financial assurance requirements.
Environmental and Waste Monitoring:
- Understand requirements for data collection, collation, analysis, management, and storage.
- Learn about appropriate institutional structures and systems to support monitoring and reporting requirements.
Policy and Legislative Development:
- Gain insights into developing new legislation or reviewing existing legislation for regulating waste activities and data collection.
- Understand the high-level policy objectives guiding environmental and waste monitoring requirements, including Gender Equity, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) issues.
